Drawing Courses Online

If you’re seriously looking for a drawing course online that actually works, then you’ve chosen the right article to read! I’m a retired businessman – pushing 70 – with an abiding affection for art, among other things. However, being totally honest, I must admit that I can’t draw worth a hoot!

Recently, though, I’ve been reconsidering that, so this essay will be a short story about how I sorted through the many choices available to learn drawing online and reached a viable decision.

Now, before I continue, just let me say that I have over 40 years of business experience, so if you’re willing to concede that I probably know what I’m doing and can successfully determine the best option, then maybe you just want to go check it out for yourself. If so, feel free to jump ahead to the Resource Box on the bottom and click on the links there. Otherwise, please read on …

Okay, back to my story. After spending so many years of my life in schools, the U.S. Navy, and business, I can assure you that I can doodle with the best of them. I just can’t draw worth a dime! Not that I haven’t tried. Often I’ve put pencil to pad, brush to canvas, only to view the amateurish, sometimes comical, results with disappointment.

But I also know how to accomplish something when I’m properly motivated to do so. Step one is to commit to giving a 100% effort to help yourself. Step two is to find and apply the optimum expertise needed to complement your efforts and direct them successfully to help yourself!

And so I turned my attention to looking for expert help. I found that there truly is no shortage of art instruction available for consideration, both online and on campus. The key issue is finding some that work. Two major factors to analyze here are the drawing techniques being taught and the instruction methods used to teach them. Both components are needed for successfully learning to draw.

What I discovered were many online drawing courses emphasizing what to do, but considerably fewer also teaching how to do it and do it well. I feel that it is important to know that somebody can do something, yes, but if I’m seriously considering something for myself, I want to feel confident that I can do it! Don’t you?

Alright, moving on, for me to actually learn how to draw, I know that learning what to do and how to do it are essential factors. But, I also know that, realistically, the speed and ease with which learning occurs are also important elements that will contribute to my achieving success. And thus, after more evaluation, the options dwindle.

What about price? That’s important too, right? I’m not talking ‘cheap’ here, as too often I’ve found that cheap correlates with crap! But I am talking bargain, you know, best deal, most value for the least money!

Finally, I like assurances … sure things … guarantees. I like to know that if for some unforeseen reason things don’t go just as expected, then I come out no worse than I went in. I call that ‘Peace Of Mind Buying.’

OK, were any drawing online course options left after completing my analysis? You bet! I even gave it extra credit because it’s a pencil drawing course and therefore teaches drawing with an instrument I’ve been writing and doodling with for over 60 years! So, if you’re seriously looking for an art course online that actually works, then click on the links in the Resource Box below to get the full details.

Pencil drawing in monochrome

Pencil drawing in monochrome is the foundation of any budding artist. Many new artists make the mistake of skipping foundation building and go right on to learn how to paint or draw in colors. They do this by learning tracing the shapes and forms and then paint over them.

Unfortunately, this process cannot produce a good drawing. That’s because when the artist starts to paint over the lines, he or she starts to trace as well. As a result, spontaneity is lost. The drawing looks unnatural, and the artist is only cheating himself.

How then do we avoid this? The answer lies in learning how to draw and sketch properly, so that when the drawing comes out, it looks naturally instead of mechanical.

Contrary to popular believe, learning how to draw or sketch naturally is not as difficult as it seems. I do agree that there are more complicated subjects such as portraits, hands, etc. that require more skills but all that can be picked up with proper training.

The first step to learning how to draw in monochrome is to pick the right paper. If you observe good sketches, you’ll notice that they often contain near perfect blendings and classy details. So much so that the others can only observe in awe. Well, now you don’t have to. You too, can draw like that.

You see, the drawing paper that you choose plays a big part. There are two types of paper that we can generally choose from. The choice is a little more complicated if you’re drawing in color, but for monochrome drawing, just keep in mind that you want to choose drawing paper that has a smooth service.

You can feel the paper with your hands when choosing the paper. The other type of paper are those with a mat surface. This kind of paper feels grainy and rough. In your local art supplies store, you’ll find both of these types of paper. Also, most multi-purpose paper feels rough rather than smooth. That’s because the paper has to provide for the needs of using colors. Choose a sketch pad that’s smooth for practise. Don’t worry if it feels thin. You don’t need a thick piece of cartridge paper for sketching exercises.

The next step is to choose drawing tools that allow you to work on both the broad lines and the fine details. It doesn’t matter what type of monochrome tools that you’re going to use (charcoal, pencils, etc), but you do need to know that you must keep pointed tools with you at all times for the fine details.

These are the tools required for drawing in monochrome. Once you have them, you’re ready to start.

Mode of Cosmic Therapy: Investigating Interior Navigation

These days, it’s all about learning how to navigate. It’s not enough to map out where you want to go, or how you want to get there, but knowing how to activate individual appropriately devised honing tools for the journey will determine how much you will be able to enjoy the ride and appreciate the adventure. Honing devices include the ability to recognize and relate specific events, people, places, situations, and circumstances that carry significant messages in them {for you} that could be easily overlooked if YOU are not paying attention. These hidden messages usually remain obscured because they are often lost in the midst of what seems to be insignificant things. THINGS that would otherwise be labeled trivial or inconsequential.

For example: if you were to turn your head to your immediate left, (at this very moment) at about a 45 degree angle, and peer five feet away, what do you see? I mean, precisely, exactly, in a fully animated detailed description, what would you tell me was occupying that particular space? These THINGS, be they animate or inanimate are extremely important in the scope of your present mood and state of mind. Those THINGS hold immeasurable clues to your existence. BEFORE MY BRINGING YOUR ATTENTION TO THEM, they were simply standing as silent sentinels ready and available for observation but to no avail. Not only were you not aware of them but probably thought of them as meaningless. They were not then, nor are they now, meaningless and without contribution. Did you really think that the THINGS that populate your world have no baring in it? IF they were not relevant and meaningful to you and for you, THEY would not be there {wherever there is}accountable and visual . Up until this point, you had continually been surrounded by THINGS that seemed to have no particular relevance in your life. You erroneously believed that unless you had developed some sort of viable interactive relationship with “IT”, the THING was simply unimportant, AS FAR AS YOU WERE CONCERNED. But, nothing could be further from the truth.

All THINGS constitute the fabric of your life without exception. Every…thing reflects and projects aspects of you! YOUR WORLD, YOUR CAREER, YOUR ROMANCE, YOUR DESIRES, YOUR FAMILY, YOUR SPIRITUALITY, YOUR FINANCES, YOUR HEALTH, YOUR FRIENDS, YOUR TALENTS AND ABILITIES, YOUR DEATH, YOUR FEARS AND OBSESSIONS, YOUR GOALS AND AMBITIONS, YOUR REPUTATION, YOUR LESSONS, YOUR PAIN, and YOUR PURPOSE. No more; no less. IF you see it, it means SOMETHING. That something has been drawn from the wellspring of your essential being! In other words, every single object, person, place or thing represents the whole of you! Alot of times, people walk around in a fog mumbling something about not understanding the purpose OR point of their lives. They may even go so far as to mouth the words, “I really don’t know what I want.” Or worse, complain and bemoan certain events that have occurred as if they were in some way unattached to the specific outcome. They spin tales in a manner to those who are not wise enough to recognize the sound of self-agrandisement, of PLAYING THE ROLE OF a totally unsuspecting bystander who had been taken advantage of and cast aside broken-hearted and dejected, in spite of the unceasing goodness that pervades their every cell. If one is so inclined to give them the time of day and inclination of energy, any number of parasitical emotions will continue to surface: resentment, anger, bitterness, jealousy, grief, tawdy gossip, and blame. Yes, the old, “somebody’s done me SO wrong song” comes in loud and clear IF you, too, are in THAT same place with a mind ready to identify with your having been cheated on, lied to, or betrayed in some manner, in some way.

But, here’s where having the proper navigational tools come into play. Navigation is all about knowing how to follow one’s innate resonating program. A specifically indelibly imprinted tonal pattern was implanted within you, while you were in the womb; locked and encoded into your specific DNA, for your convenience and application. The key is to learn how to master the program. {To see/hear, relate, recognize and assign the various tones in proper order} What does that entail? Practice, of course. If you want to learn to play the piano, you must practice. But, even before practicing, you must become acquainted with the 88 keys.[How they blend together, how they respond singularly, how they work in harmony with other keys or how they scream dissonantly when combined with not so flattering ones.] Knowing what works and what doesn’t is helpful when trying to compose a beautiful melody. Let’s face it, in order to know anything, the THING must become so familiar. NOT SO FAMILIAR THAT YOU TAKE IT FOR GRANTED, MIND YOU BUTFamilair enough not to have to think about it.

You naturally resonate with it; it resonates with you. To do that, one must learn to pay attention. Paying attention means exactly what it implies. There is a price demanded. That price involves the exchange of one’s conscious awareness in order to be given the insight necessary to recognize his/her personal honing device being activated. The musical honing device is constructed in such a way that it resonates at different decibels in different situations at differnt times. It’s all a matter of becoming acutely aware of your surroundings at all times. {This means to fully incorporate and appreciate the face of the other human that is staring directly into your space, as well.} This deliberate act of becoming aware of one’s total surroundings involves time, patience, effort and committed dedication to seeing and hearing what’s standing directly in front, back, sideways, top, bottom, in between and all around you at all times. You must be willing to come to that place within yourself whereby you verbally make the agreement to receive all THINGS as not originating from the outside as you so feverishly want to maintain(without your intent, approval and invitation) but arising deep from within the well of your very own soul. These THINGS are the irrefutable evidence in personal conceptualized form for you to process and experience passionately and joyfully. With that being said, and considering the fact that all THINGS DO IN REALITY form our self-created world, it may be time to look into how something as simple as astrological influences may be charted and used as a viable means of understanding your diverse inner landscape. No doubt we are all deeply embedded in a journey of soul’s delight. Some might even say we are on a ‘ship in the desert’; others may say we’re’ flying on the wings of an Eagle’ while on this sojouurn through Earth. Either way, it’s a comforting THING to realize that WE ARE in fact CARRYING OUR OWN brand of Oasis in order to access when we get tired, thristy, disillusioned, scared, grumpy….

Drawing Hands – 5 Critical Things To Keep In Mind

For many artists (myself included) drawing hands can be the most challenging aspect of figure drawing. The hand is an extremely complex area and drawing it is a subject of study all by itself. There are many great books devoted to this topic and I highly recommend that you explore them.
I”ve gathered what I have learned over the years, and narrowed it down to 5 Critical tips to keep in mind to produce a more realistic hand. The items in this list are actually quite simple (and they were meant to be) but many beginners still miss them. If you just keep these details in mind while you work, your sketches will show immediate improvement.
Here we go:
1) Hands are NOT made up of straight lines”fingers are NOT parallel to each other, knuckles DON”T line up in a row, and the edges of the hand are NOT straight and parallel. Instead the finger tips and the knuckles form an arch across the hand. Also the figures bend slightly toward the space between the Middle Finger and the Ring Finger. This subtle detail will add life to your drawing.
2) The palm of the hand consists of 3 meaty parts: 1) One is at the base of the thumb, 2) the other lies at the base of the pinky. 3) And the third takes the shape of a row and sits just underneath the knuckle
3) The skin web between the fingers should be a “U” shape instead of a “V” shape or a flat line.
4) Even when the hand is relaxed, the fingers are never in a straight line, they always curve slightly towards the palm no matter how gravity is pulling on them. This is how the hand naturally behaves; be sure to capture this in your drawings.
5) When drawing the back side of the hand, always remember to include these 3 things:
“the knuckles
“the veins
“the wrinkles at the joints of the finger
I”ve done my best in this article to outline in words the things that you should pay attention to when drawing hands. But the truth is, drawing hands (or anything for that matter) is a visual exercise. You have to see examples after examples in order for this to really sink in. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words.
